Reza Satchu, founder and Managing Partner of Alignvest Management Corporation, has a background in finance and economics. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He started his career in banking at Merrill Lynch in 1991 and quickly worked his way up to a senior level. He later worked as a financial analyst and structured high-yield debt offerings, completing 10 transactions worth more than $3.5 billion. The Ismaili community was in exile in Uganda after the dictator Idi Amin expelled people of South Asian descent and those from neighboring countries. Luckily, Canada opened its doors to 20,000 Ismaili immigrants at that time. In 1976, Satchu and his family moved to Toronto and started a new life. Then, as a twenty-five-year-old, they found themselves living in a two-bedroom apartment.
